#TBT A League of Their Own
Growing up in STL, I became a HUGE fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and follow them every season leading into the World Series!!! So when Penny Marshall (famously known for playing Laverne in the hit 70’s sitcom “Laverne and Shirley”) directed a film about women’s baseball called A League of Their Own, I was ecstatic!!! A film about women in baseball…un-heard of, but yet it really existed and was amazing to watch it revisited on the silver screen. A League of Their Own, considered by many to be one of the “best sports movies of all time”, also served as the first major film for Madonna, who became and remains great friends with Rosie O’Donnell. Tom Hanks, shed a small side of his comic genius to show a brooding, more serious character as coach Jimmy Dugan sand Geena Davis’ portrayal of Dottie Hinson was a standout on every level.
Ironically, A League of Their Own celebrates it’s 25th Anniversary of this popular flick and has been released on Blu-Ray DVD. Check out this video trailer re-capping most of A League of Their Own’s greatest moments
