
Intimate Look at First Time Oscar Nominees
This may be the first year these actors are nominated and recognized by the Academy for their work, but they have been around for a minute. Out of the 20 actors nominated for an Oscar this year, 7 of them are first time nominees.
- ANDREW GARFIELD – BEST ACTOR for HACKSAW RIDGE
You may recognize Garfield as Mark Zuckerberg’s best friend in The Social Network, but it was his work in The Amazing Spiderman that took him straight to the A-list.
2. RUTH NEGGA – BEST ACTRESS for LOVING
Ruth Negga’s subtle work in “Loving” is marvelous! However, AMC fans will recognize her from her work on “Preacher”
3. ISABELLE HUPPERT – BEST ACTRESS FOR ELLE
Isabelle Huppert in arguably the France’s version of Meryl Streep and his been in a ton of acclaimed French films.. However, American audiences may recognize her work in “Amour” and “I Heart Huckabees”.
4. DEV PATEL – BEST ACTOR for LION
Dev Patel burst onto the film scene in America with “Slumdog Millionaire” and garnered many more fans with his for on the Aaron Sorkin drama “The Newsroom”.
5. MAHERSHALA ALI – BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR for MOONLIGHT
Mahershala Ali is not stranger to show business as he would watch his Dad from the wings in many a Broadway theatre, However, his work on “House of Cards” and the Marvel series “Luke Cage” no doubt has escalated his star turns in Hidden Figures and Moonlight.
6. LUCAS HEDGES – BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR for MANCHESTER BY THE SEA
Movie goers may remember Hedges from a small part he had in a little film called “Moonrise Kingdom”
7. NAOMIE HARRIS – BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS for MOONLIGHT
Harris is what many refer to as an overnight sensation, but has been on the silver screen for years. She’s been seen in flicks like “28 Days Later”, “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise and as a Bond Girl in “Skyfall”.
