Women Take Charge in Turbo Boosted Sequel The Accountant 2

Could you imagine having an accountant who kicks butt and takes names as a side hustle? Well, Ben Affleck is back as Christian Wolff whose talent for solving unusually complex issues serves him especially well when an old acquaintance is murdered.
Realizing this may be a task for more than one person, Wolff enlist his estranged and higly lethal brother Brax (Jon Bernthal) to assist. In addition, the duo joins in partnership with U.S. Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), as they uncover a deadly conspiracy, becoming targets of a ruthless network of killers who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried.
Sounds like a lot? It is, but this Gavin O’Connor directed high stakes action-adventure waste no time getting right into the heart of the action within the first ten minutes.
Bernthal and Affleck’s chemistry drives the action of the film through a multitude of riveting fight sequences and quippy dialogue that falls into the trope of most buddy comedies. In this case, it works well while serving the plot.
The women of this franchise ar the ones to watch though. The intense fight sequence between Cynthia Adda-Robinson and Daniela Pineda are with the price of admission alone. Pineda is commanding as the steely eyed, stealth assassin who is in search of vengeance for her husband and child. She glides through each frame with a presence that looms over the film even when no onscreen. Addai-Robinson matches her energy and together this duo scorches the screen individually and collectively.
This film unapologetically allows women to be more than window dressing or support props for the stars. Addai-Robins and Pineda are holding their own and frankly the best highlights of the film.
Interesting that the week of this film’s release, comments were made by a political figurehead concerning those diagnosed with autism how those individuals lack ability to take care of oneself or proceed with having a life of quality. Affleck’s character Christian Wolff is clearly a high functioning man with autism and this may be just another Hollywood film. However, it speaks loud and clear to that myth and dispels it in one fell swoop.
Although, the pacing midway could’ve used a turbo boost, The Accountant 2 is entertaining and worth the watch. Will there be a third chapter in this franchise? You can count on it.
