Leslie Jones Steals the Show in Angry Birds Movie 2

Let’s get this right out of the way.  I never played the Angry Birds game and could’ve cared less about an Angry Bird until the first feature was released by Sony a few years back. But, now. I am totally hooked on some Angry Birds and their latest chapter Angry Birds 2.

When we revisit Red (Jason Sudekis), Chuck (Josh Gad), Bomb (Danny McBride) and the rest of the gang , they are surprised an suspicious when Leonard (Bill Bader) suggest they draw a truce, put their differences aside in order to conquer a common threat.  They hatch a crazy plan which involves getting on Eagle Island, create a diversion to break into the superweapon and disable it.  Only they don’t have a real plan in place until Silver (Rachel Bloom) comes into the picture.

On Eagle Island, Zeta (Leslie Jones) is plotting and planning take out Bird Island aided by her trusty sidekick Debbie (Tiffany Haddish) and the Hatchlings (voiced by Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s kids Faith Margaret and Sunday Rose) are desperately seeking to recover their baby sister eggs, which unceremoniously keep going out to sea by raft.

Let’s cut to the chase!  It’s been a minute since I laughed this hard!!!  The soundtrack alone will have you dancing in your seats and aids greatly in the unfolding of this story.  Songs like ‘I Need A Hero’ with the Hatchlings, ‘All by Myself” during a flashback with Red from a baby bird to now – completely alone, ‘Margaritaville‘ while Zeta (Leslie Jones) drinks Pina Coladas while getting her party on, ‘Turn Down For What’ or ‘Dead or Alive’ while the Hatchlings are rescuing their siblings from a rattlesnake.

But, the true message reveals at the end of the day, all we want as creatures is to be liked, to fit in and belong.  Silver (Rachel Bloom) will give little girls life!  She proves that without a shadow of a doubt, girls who are smart should be valued, not shunned or embarrassed for their brainiac skills.

Produced by Sony Animation, Angry Birds Movie 2 hits theaters on August 14th and will be a rocking good time for the entire family.  Be on the lookout for interviews with the director Thurop Van Orman, Producer John Cohen and starring as Red and Silver – Jason Sudeikis and Rachel Bloom.  In the meantime…

Check out this interview with my St. Louis homie and star of This is Us – Sterling K. Brown who plays the nerdy pig scientist Gary.
