THE EMOJI MOVIE REVIEW
Among the gazillion things I do in this industry to keep my creative juices flowing is teach social media and branding to college and high school students. During that process, I impress upon on them one thing – to embrace their uniqueness and brand it. No one else can be you BUT you.
In the end, Gene discovers that being different is the one thing that make him unique, lovable and a great emoji. Especially, when he finds out that he really not that different after all. Gene’s Dad ‘Meh’ actually is afflicted with the gift of making different emoji’s as well.
I know this film is getting a lot of flack from a lot of critics, but let’s face it…this film is cute! It feels like internet’s version of the Christmas classic Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, is a great lesson in the origins of emoji’s and what they all mean. If there is any childlike shred left in you as an adult, you are totally sucked in and invested throughout Gene’s journey. This film makes the firewall look like an upgraded version of the Heat Miser from Frosty the Snowman and it will raise the hair on you neck just a tad.
Take a look at the fun I had on the ‘blue carpet’ premiere…
Casting Sir Patrick Stewart as Poop is kinda funny for obvious reasons and I heard through the grapevine that Whoopi Goldberg was actually campaigning for the gig. Check out this clip from The View when she admits defeat…
Maya Rudolph is perfectly cast as Smiler, who is evil to the core, all while sporting a big grin. Come on, we all know some people like that…don’t we? I think my favorite part was making fun of the video game. “Just Dance” and the Twitter emoji become a mode of transportation Jailbreak and Gene…pure corny comedy! Of course, there are some moments in the middle that are a little slow, however, for the most part you and the fam will have a great time! At the end of the day, The Emoji Movie is wholesome fun that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Take the kids and have a ball when it hits a theatre near you TODAY July 28th.
