Pure Country: Pure Heart

As Barbara Mandrell says in her hit song, “I Was Country when Country Wasn’t Cool”!!  Being a Missouri girl, home of the Ozark Mountains and Branson, country music is truly in my blood and was a massive part of my upbringing in the Midwest.

When one of my Uncle’s transitioned a few years back, I was mortified, shocked and surprised to say the least when it was revealed he had not one BUT two Purple Hearts from serving in the armed forces, How did I go my whole entire life and not know this?  Why was it never discussed or celebrated by my family while he was alive?

Already in the throes of putting our genealogy together, it gave me a sense of urgency to uncover even more about my Uncle and our family tree.

Pure Country:  Pure Heart follows the Spencer sisters who accidentally find out that their father (who was also in the armed forces and killed in Iraq) was a musician.  A musician who was on the cusp of being the “next big thing” in Nashville.   When he met and fell in love with their Mom (beautifully played by Amanda Detmer), he left country music in the dust…literally.   So, now Ada (Kaitlyn Bausch) (Cozi Zuelsdorff) and Piper set out to investigate this mystery side of their Dad  and discover  more than they bargained for.

With brilliantly energetic performances by Broadway Veteran Laura Bell Bundy (Marq Dunn), the legendary Willie Nelson, Ronny Cox, as well as, Cozi Zuelsdorff and Kaitlyn Bausch of the 16 original soundtrack songs  written by Frankie Pine and Mandi Collier, true country fans will hum along and tap those toes to every tune.

Filmed on location in New Orleans and Nashville, Pure Country:  Pure Heart is a heartwarming story of two young girls uncovering the past, finding their voices and beginning a wondrous journey as singer/songwriters in the world of country music.

This is the third film in the Pure Country series.  Other titles include Pure Country and Pure Country 2:  The Gift.  Pure Country:  Pure Heart is rated family approved by the Dove Foundation and is available by DVD and Digital HD TODAY, August 1st.

Had the opportunity to speak with the director Dan Santostefano and one of the film’s stars Amanda Detmer…Check it out…
