The Amateur Will Shatter Your Senses and Make You Hold Your Breath

What happens when the love of your life is gone with no warning leaving you unprepared for the emotional and physical void in a house that was made into a home. Where does one go from here and how ?a for the loss?
Charlie Heller (Rami Malek) is a brilliant, deeply introverted decoder for the CIA working out of a basement office at headquarters in Langley. His life is turned upside down when his wife, Sarah (Rachel Brosnahan), is unexpectedly murdered in a London terrorist attack. After his supervisors refuse to take action, Heller takes matters into his own hands, embarking on a dangerous trek to track down those responsible, with his intelligence serving as the ultimate weapon for eluding his pursuers and achieving revenge.
Malek seemingly returns to his Mr. Robot roots in this high stakes action/adventure thriller exploring how one individual can use technology to exact revenge on those who have taken the one thing he loved the most. Directed by James Hawes, The Amateur is high octane from the first frame to the last leaving room for a sequel or dare I even say a new franchise.
The pairing of Malek and the legendary Lawrence Fishburne is pure genius as their chemistry is quiet fire and ignites within the confines of this story. Even though Brosnahan is mostly seen in flashbacks, her presence is highly palpable throughout serving as an inspiration for Heller to keep going on his mission.
At it’s core, The Amateur is about an ordinary man thrust into extraordinary circumstances driven by love and grief from the one person who knew him the best. Heller doesn’t look nor act like a superhero, but he ultimately inhabits that persona in more way than one.
Word of advice…this film will single-handedly make you think twice about getting into a glass swimming pool ever again in this lifetime.
