Storm Reid Commands the Screen Alongside Nia Long in Missing

Many people complain about social media and the onslaught of opinions that range anywhere from a ‘real housewife’ to political shenanigans in our Nation’s Capitol.  But, as we have seen, social media, the internet and cell phones can literally save a life.  But, what happens when you have all those new features like SOS and don’t know how to use them to your advantage.  Luckily for June she never has to find out.

When June’s (Storm Reid) mother disappears on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend Kevin (Ken Leung), her search for answers is hindered by international red tape. Stuck thousands of miles away in Los Angeles, she finds a way to creatively use all the latest technology at her fingertips to try and find her Mom Grace(Nia Long) before it’s too late. However, as June digs ever deeper, her digital sleuthing soon raises more questions than answers.

Directed and written by newbies Nicholas D. Johnson and Will Merrick, the twists an turn rollercoaster of emotions never cease keeping one riveted from the first frame to the last.

Storm Reid carries this film on her shoulders and does so with grace, tenacity and fervor.  I’m not surprised that this young lady could rise even higher than what she does on Euphoria and years previous with Wrinkle in Time.  But, she is a force of epic proportions and the next generation of young actors are in exemplary hands if she is leading the charge.

Nia Long is having a fantastic year.  Between The Best Man Series, You People with Eddie Murphy among other projects, she is having a Niasance and I’m there for all of it.  Her acting range is often underestimated, but she and Storm should be garnering a whole lot more work after being seen in this. What I love most is that this is a film led by two strong Black women that is smart, suspenseful and great filmmaking in this genre.

Missing was released by Sony Pictures on January 20th and is in theaters now.
