Shotgun Wedding is Campy, Comedic Fun
One thing Jason Moore know is comedy. How do I know? He was my director for the Tony-award winning musical Avenue Q. So what better person for him to team up with than the my favorite romcom actress Jennifer Lopez for Shotgun Wedding.
Darcy (Jennifer Lopez) and Tom (Josh Duhamel) gather their families for a destination wedding, but the ceremony gets put on hold when gunmen take everyone hostage. Now, they must do everything they can to save their loved ones — if they don’t wind up killing each other first.
Baby, when I tell you other than the comedic shenanigans of Lopez, Jennifer Coolidge (Carol Fowler) and Lenny Kravitz had me howling out loud. Coolidge just makes any project she is a part of better with her sheer presence…yup I said it! Lenny Kravitz, playing the sexy, earthy ex is a little bit of typecasting, but who cares when you’re as easy on the eyes and ears as he is…yup I said that too! But, I loved seeing an OG like Sonia Braga whose character shares my name – RENATA be completely salty an selfish as mother of the bride.
Mark Hammer’s script, although it has some really hilarious moments, is most. predictable with very few surprises. Not to mention that my heart went out to the bulk of the cast spending most of the film in a pool. I couldn’t help but have visions of wrinkled fingers, toes and other extremities.Yup, I also said THAT.
Although I mostly got my giggle on, there were flashbacks to the Sandra Bullock/Channing Tatum film, The Lost City a little while back where like Lopez she is running through the jungle in a ripped up dress. Not to mention the intro scene in the pool and the ad-nauseum convo over how to get rid of a grenade which both go on just a little too long.
Shotgun Wedding is fluffy, rom-com fun and if you are JLo fan you will be all about it and then some.
