Review: Edge of Tomorrow
Let me begin with the good news. I am a gigantic Tom Cruise fan!!! From the Risky Business days all the way to when he lost his mind over Katie Holmes jumping on Oprah’s chairs…LOL I also love him in his action-adventure flicks doing all his own stunts and keeping us on the edge of seats …until now.
That being said, Edge of Tomorrow didn’t take ME to the edge…at all. This film has an officer finding himself in a kind of virtual “groundhog day” which puts him in a a war with an alien race forcing him to live out the same brutal combat repeatedly and dying repeatedly again and again and again… Thanks to Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), his skill increases taking him one step closer to defeating the enemy.
I have been a huge fan of Emily Blunt since seeing her in “The Devil Wears Prada”, she should’ve she was in trouble while shooting when after putting the metal suit, she started crying because it was so heavy (it weighted 85 pounds) and that she would be required to perform action scenes in it for 5 months. She was jokingly told by Tom Cruise to ‘stop being such a wuss’.
Special effects are great, but not enough to give this one a rave. You guys know I like EVERYTHING, but his one had me squirming in my seat. One too many ‘”groundhog days for me. Edge of Tomorrow is in theaters now.
