Resilient, Unflinching and Unwavering is Fox Rich in Amazon Doc TIME

Love is powerful emotion.  Like Al Green sings with Love and Happiness, “…love will make you do right…love will make you do wrong.”

Fox Rich is a fighter. This entrepreneur, abolitionist and mother of six young Black men has spent the better part of two decades fighting for the release of her husband, Rob G. Rich, who was serving a 60-year sentence for a robbery they both committed in the early 90s out of of desperation.  Even though no crime is without its punishment, it goes without saying being sentenced to 60 years is more than what a court would sentence one for  murder.  It’s flat our ridiculous and one more reason people have taken to the streets with public outrage at the injustices and inequality blatantly geared toward people of color.  Couple that with the daunting task of being pregnant in the midst of it all, not knowing if you’ll have to raise these men alone or be blessed with the day your family can once again become whole.

Combining the video diaries Fox recorded for Rob with an intimate glimpse of her present-day life, director Garrett Bradley with love and respect paints a mesmerizing portrait of the resilience and radical love which prevailed over our country’s prison-industrial complex and their gross negligence/misuse of power.

When I tell you women like Fox are a rare breed, I do not exaggerate.  Against all odds, she persevered and got her family back together by any means necessary.  Oh, yeah, she went to prison too and was released before her husband making it her life’s mission to apologize to those caused undue stress and disappointment from her actions while becoming a valiant, dominant voice in the community for formerly incarcerated women with a desire to turn their lives around.  Despite it all, Fox raised capable, thoughtful, enterprising young men in a society designed and built for her and them to fail.  Yet, she has triumphed with six productive, positive members in the world.

One the most telling moments of the Amazon doc is when she calls the judge to inquire yet again if Rob’s case has been looked over and was straight up lied to.  Or, the thousands of dollars spent on his defense and be told repeatedly, there’s nothing that can be done.  With persistence, kindness and an extensive knowledge of the law, Fox finally prevails when Rob is released nearly 21 years later.

Streaming on Amazon Prime Video on October 16th, TIME is infinite.  TIME is what you make it.  TIME, like history, will repeat itself and most importantly TIME is precious.  Cherish and hold dear those who are precious to you for tomorrow is not promised for anyone…Any TIME.
