Offerman and Clemons Showcase Music Chops in Hearts Beat Loud

Kiersey Clemons first got the attention of Sundance festival goers with her performance in “Dope” and got my attention again as the young  love interest in the Richard Gere film “The Only Lonely Boy in New York”. But, her turn as a poetic, lesbian teen about to leave her single Dad for college is her best role to date.

Frank, who is comically, yet warm-heartedly portrayed by Nick Offerman, has his hands full with a failing business, a mother with Alzheimer’s (Blythe Danner) and the desire to resurrect a failing career as a musician, whose core belief is “we don’t always get to do what we love…so we should love what we do.”

When Frank decides to put in a last ditch effort by posting a song Sam (Kiersey Clemons) wrote on an online music service, both of their lives take a turn neither of them expect or know how to embrace.

Ted Danson (Dave) is giving us something so far removed from his previous roles that you really forget he’s the dude we love to see in a sitcom.  Kudos Ted!

Nick Offerman and Kiersey Clemons‘ musical skills make Hearts Beat Loud  a delightfully, heart tugging love story between a parent and a child both struggling with the dilemma of staying with what you know or stepping outside the box.

Hearts Beat Loud tugged at my heart strings and won me over – hands down.  I laughed.  I cried. I loved.  Teenage angst isn’t what it used to be.  It’s more complicated with issues like cyber bullying, LGBTQ teens and of course, the universal issue of never thinking your parents are as cool as they think they are. Director/Writer Brett Haley got it right from the first fame to the last.

Acquired by Gunpowder & Sky and Sony Pictures, you will love this one when it hits theaters.
