Marcia Gay Harden and Oscar Jaenada Sizzle in After Words

What does a librarian do when budget cuts take her lifeblood away and send her into a deep depression?  What does she do “after words”?  Like John Wilkins says, “A good book is the perfect lifeblood of a master of spirit…”

While viewing the loss of job security with life flashing before her eyes, Jane (Marcia Gay Harden) takes a trip to Costa Rica planning some pretty memories for “the end”.  Upon arrival, she meets a younger man Juan (Óscar Jaenada) who watches Jane transform from a woman whose assortment of books consumed her life into one who begins to see life full of adventure, romance and a journey she never saw coming.

Marcia Gay Harden is almost unrecognizable as Jane and conveys more emotion through presence than any dialogue could ever convey.  Of course, that comedic side pops in every once in while, which reminds one why we fell in love with her on-screen in the first place.  Harden is having a great year in film, as she is also playing a overachieving Mom in Tribeca and Los Angeles Film Festival “Grandma” with Lily Tomlin (ironically enough “Grandma” opens today as well.)

Oscar Jaenada, as the island gigolo Juan, breaks your hear as he gains a conscience while dealing with Jane.  His realization that nature has an uncanny way of making her pain dissipate makes you fall in love with him – just like Jane.  Jenna Ortega as Anna is just adorbs…in a very precocious un-annoying way.  She was just scrumptious!!!

After Words is a perfect example of how two people can enter one’s life not necessarily when we want them, but when we need them to nourish our soul and our spirit.

Kudos to Cinematographer Salvador Lleo De La Fe for making us feel like we are on this fantastic, tropical journey of adventure with Jane prompting one to book the next flight out to Costa Rica.  That ziplining scene is the best!!!  One of my favorite moments is when this line is spoken…”Remember This Is Now…live it!”  After Words made my heart smile reminding how simple things in life can make a difference in how you see yourself, others and the world around you.  Pura Vida!!!

In addition to its theatrical release TODAY, After Words will be available on Amazon, CinemaNow, Blockbuster, Comcast, Direct TV, Dish, Google Play, iNDemand, iTunes, Playstation, Vubiquity, VUDU and Xbox.
