#TBT Forrest Gump
10 years ago this week “Forrest Gump” premiered in theaters taking Tom Hanks and Robin Wright to superstar status.
Forrest was one of those characters that made you believe in humanity and the human race! By all standards, he was considered “a little slow”, but Forrest was right in the pocket when it came to those he loved and cherished.
He had more amazing life experiences than any other person on the face of the earth! He fought and surivived Vietnam, met President Kennedy, was a Ping Pong champion, co-owned his own restaurant, became a father, experienced loss and sooo much more!
Of course, who can forget that famous phrase, “Life is like a box of chocolates…you never know what you’re gonna get”
Tom Hanks was mostly seen as a comedian and sitcom star from ABC-tv’s “Bosom Buddies” until the film “Philadelphia”, earning Hanks his first Oscar. Forrest Gump put him in a very distinctive league of Oscar winning actors when he took home the award a year later for his heartwarming portrayl of Forrest Gump. This generation doesn’t even know him as a comedian.
Robin Wright as “Jenny” reminded us all of that one friend that just gets in their own way no matter how you try to help. We were angry when we felt she was taking advantage of Forrest and forgave her when she showed the ultimate un-selfish act of giving Forrest a child.
Who can forget Mykeliti Williamson as “Bubba” or Sally Field as “Forrest’s Mom” or Gary Sinise as “Lt. Dan”.
Forrest Gump is easily one of the best films of all time!!! Not only did Hanks take home the Oscar, director Zemeckis earned the only Oscar he has been nominated for and won. The film walked away with a total of 6 Academy Awards that year. If you have never seen it…do yourself a favor and check it out and if you have seen it — see it again…it is totally worth it!
