Amy Schumer Redefines Female Empowerment in I Feel Pretty

I love Amy Schumer.  There I said it.  Why?  She is unapologetically Amy no matter what version of her she reveals with a sprinkle of truth serum on top.

I Feel Pretty is a reinforcement message for all those women and young girls who think their packaging  isn’t enough to make an impact in a world of perfection in the eyes of social media and fashion.  The truth is  there is no perfection.  Everyone has something they don’t like.  The truth is embracing what is uniquely YOU…your rolls,  double chin,  knocked knees, fallen arches, big lips, kinky hair, flat butt and whatever else on your body feels whack is a fully orchestrated composition especially made just for you through nature and of course, your parents units.

Amy Schumer makes it ok to laugh at yourself those times you went to Soul Cycle and couldn’t get your cleats unclipped or that time you tried to connect with a toddler and they screamed bloody murder in your face or that time you left home just knowing you were “it” only to discover the construction dude was cat calling the girl or dude behind you.  Admit it.   We have all been there.  Hell, I went to Soul Cycle and literally left my soul in the room and my cleats on the pedals!

We also have all had that one pretty friend who cares more about fitting in and being fly than they do nurturing a ride or die friendship. At the end of the day, beauty fades and all you are left with is your character, your rep and how you make people feel.

“…Do not retouch me in this movie. Do not retouch anything,'” Schumer told CBS-TV’s Gayle King.  “You see my cellulite. You see my, my rolls, whatever….It’s like, I feel great. And I just want, I want other women, other people to — to feel good about themselves. And I think walking out of this movie you really do.”  Yes, Amy Schumer…I felt great and felt really pretty!!!  Thank you for the reminder that I am enough just the way I am…pooch, bubble butt, giggly arms and all.  But, more importantly, I am confident in my own skin and unapologetic for it.  It’s the same  confidence that helped me become a college beauty queen and now sees me running my own empire…taking over Hollywood one pound at a time.

This film reminded me of The Devil Wears Prada with a twist into reality.  It’s secret that I think Michelle Williams can do no wrong and the incorporation of real life supermodel Lauren Hutton was pure genius.

I Feel Pretty is one of my new favs.  Produced by STX Entertainment, it opens in theaters on April 20th.  You really don’t want to miss this one…
