Strong Women Dominate Action in The Matrix Resurrections
In an acting class situated above a bowling alley in the San Fernando Valley is where I met Carrie Ann Moss, who was just about to go on location to shoot The Matrix with Keanu Reeves. At that time she had no idea that she and this film were about to become cinematic phenomenons. Four installments later, Moss and Reeves return as Trinity and Neo for The Matrix Resurrections.
To find out if his reality is a physical or mental construct, Neo (Keanu Reeves), will once again have eto choose between that red and blue pill. If he’s learned anything, it’s that choice is still the only way out of or into the Matrix. What Neo doesn’t yet know is that the Matrix is stronger, more secure and far more dangerous than ever before.
This franchise has always featured strong-willed women characterizations, but this time they are truly running the show. Although Sati (Priyanka Chopra) doesn’t have much screen time, she’s memorable nonetheless. Returning to the franchise is Jada Pinkett Smith (Niobe), who now is a General and tasked with the mission of setting Trinity free. Speaking of Trinity, Carrie Ann Moss on a motorcycle is all you really need to know, coupled with the fact that she is stunningly ageless and kicks butt on screen with the best of them.
Keanu Reeves slips seamlessly back into his star-making role along with some fantabulous stunts and nice vulnerable scene work opposite Carrie Ann Moss. Particularly the scene at her home, where faced with a life altering decision for them both. Neil Patrick Harris makes for a devilishly entertaining villain complete with diabolical dialogue laced with humor at all the appropriate moments. It was also nice to Emmy winner Yayha Abdul-Mateen II as Morpheus (all too briefly) and Jonathan Groff as Mr. Smith embracing his action-adventure side which is a refreshing departure for him on the silver screen. At the end of the day, did we need a fourth Matrix film? Probably not, but as a fan of the franchise, I got my entire life having an opportunity to visit some of favorite sci-fi characters one more time in The Matrix Resurrections.
