Spirited is Right on Time for the Holidays
After that last two years riddled with uncertainty and a truckload of negativity, one could use a little positive reinforcement. Apple TV Plus brings it to the masses in the form of Spirited, a musical comedy facelift of the old holiday classic, “A Christmas Carol.”
Complete with energized Chloe Arnold choreography and catchy tunes from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, you won’t be able to help tapping your toes and humming along, all while being put in a holiday mood with the vocal stylings of Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell and Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer.
Every Christmas Eve for almost 200 years, the spirits and their industrious support team have targeted one reprehensible human and forced them to relive some of their best and worst memories in an effort to make them a better person — and the world a better place. But, this year, they may have picked the wrong dude.
Clint Briggs (Ryan Reynolds), a cynical marketing wiz who has built a successful career capitalizing on creating divisiveness among the general public, turns the tables on his ghostly hosts, leaving Present (Will Ferrell) questioning do our choices make us who we are?
Of course, our choices ultimately define the trajectory of our lives. However, they only define us if we let them. Choices are plentiful and one can always change them for the better.
Spirited is the type of film that will renews one faith in the holiday spirit while encouraging that positive, giving ideology 365 days of the year. Not to the mention the fact that we get to hear Octavia Spencer sing, be a romantic lead and embrace what is uniquely specific about Present proving that one doesn’t need to be perfect to make a difference in a life.
Now streaming via Apple TV Plus, Spirited’s musical comedic premise will leave you in a good mood and wanting to cut up a rug in your living room.
