Reynolds, Jackman Reignite Superhero Genre with Deadpool and Wolverine

There has been high speculation for quite some time now that Marvel Studios had exhausted its superhero ‘fatigue’ and multiverse franchise, popping out 2-3 films a year, but, Ryan Reynolds found a cure for it with Deadpool and Wolverine.
The opening sequence set to Backstreet Boys ‘Bye, Bye, Bye’ complete with the boy band choreo, blood soaked battle scene sets up this franchise sequel perfect right before flipping back in time to set up how we got to present day.
The soundtrack is fire with more cult music favs ranging from Madonna’s Like a Prayer to classic cuts like Jimmy Durante’s version of I’ll Be Seeing You. As screenplay co-writer, alongside Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells and Shawn Levy, Reynolds dialogue quips like, “…keep my country’s name out of your mouth,” a clear throwback to an unfortunate Oscar event with an A-List Academy award winner or my personal favorite, “…death by day player” will make audiences laugh out loud during the many intense and blood soaked battle scenes.
The throwbacks and cameo appearances are too numerous to mention, but Marvel fans will squeal with delight at each unexpected reveal. One of the most endearing reveals is Deadpool Dog aka Mary Poppins who is too cute for words.
And that cast? Rock solid on every level. Emma Corrin, who most might remember as Princess Diana in the Netflix drama “The Crown” has dumped the Royal Family for the MCU commanding every second she inhabits. Reynolds and Jackman are the film duo we didn’t know we needed, whose instantaneous chemistry adds intrigue to every fight sequence and bits of dialogue they share.
Whether it be real or chosen family, we have two men who just need and want to be loved in order to live the lives they want and deserve.
Deadpool and Wolverine is a layered, hydraulic energized action comedy that has single-handedly reinvigorated the superhero genre back where it belongs.
