Dick Cheney has probably been one of the more controversial Vice-Presidents in American history. Constantly referred to as the “Darth Vadar” of the Bush Administration, in the eyes of most Americans, he was the eccentric, staunch Republican who had a strong opinion regarding gun control during the two terms of the Bush Administration. He was also seen as the Vice-President the instigator concerning “weapons of mass destruction” and his turbulent yet complicated relationship with Condolezza Rice and then President George W. Bush.
The World According to Dick Cheney lets the American people in on the role a Vice-President plays in a Presidential election and administration, the stress that comes with that power and being the bad guy in order to save the face and reputation of the President. of the United States.
Issues are discussed surrounding the scandal of Lewis “Scooter” Libby and his sentencing of 30 months in jail, Cheney’s push to have Libby pardoned, the imminent mandatory retirement of Donald Rumsfeld, friction amongst his aides, the administration and most damaging with the then President of the United States – George W. Bush.
In the end, the Bush Administration was defeated by now President Barack Obama and all of the severed ties and relationships during Cheney’s tenure have become irreparable.
Cheney, now retired, spends his day’s fishing and staying out of the public eye. In retrospect it is a lot of these decisions made by this Administration and his father’s (George Bush, Sr) that have put the American people in the turmoil that we experience today.
The World According to Dick Cheney can be seen now only on Showtime.
