As a young student in St. Louis, Missouri, The St. Louis Cardinals sponsored a promotion every year that gave any student who got “Straight A’s” a season pass to their home games. Needless to say, I made it my business to get Straight A’s as a midwestern girl who adores baseball!! So, when I saw that fellow St. Louis homeboy Jon Hamm was starring in a baseball flick you know I had to be their on opening day.
“Million Dollar Arm” is a true story about how two young Indian boys were recruited and trained in record time in order to prepare them for a tryout with a Major League Baseball team in America.
The true life subjects Dinesh Patel and Rinku Singh went on to be signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates and made history by being the first from India to play Major League Baseball. It was heartwarming to follow their journey onscreen and I found myself getting caught up in their despair even though I knew what the ultimate outcome would be.
I loved this film for a variety of reasons, but mostly because it shows young people that with hard work, dedication and support ANYONE can make the impossible…possible. It was great to see several film goers with their kids at the screening that I attended and they seemed to be just as inspired as I was. Million Dollar Arm surely doesn’t disappoint!! Take the fam and have a great outing before checking out your local baseball team’s home game!
