Climate Change is in Good Hands As Long As Greta Thunberg Exists

While in the midst of COVID-19, forest fires, raging floods, hurricanes and parts of the country seeing excessive temperatures, the last thing a child should be worrying about is climate change and whether or not there will be a world life for them to live in.  The most stunning image witnessinga 15-year-old Greta Thunberg sit alone outside of Sweden’s parliament with a protest sign ‘School Strike for Climate.‘

Swedish filmmaker Nathan Grossman began capturing this young activist in the midst of her the emergence of a generational leader and climate change cheerleader. He grabs every glorious moment of it in the thought prodding documentary I Am Greta.

Moving from obscurity to international attention with to the point speeches on the climate crisis ad leaders not moving fast enough to save the planet, my girl Greta proves why she is a force to be reckoned with . “Since our leaders are behaving like children, we will have to take the responsibility they should have taken long ago,” she tells delegates at a UN conference in Poland. Her message inspires other young activists to take action around the world as part of the movement dubbed #FridaysForFuture.

But, being on the autism spectrum,  ostracized in school by classmates and staff, as well as, grown middle age men putting in their two cents being equally unkind,  this unique and impassioned young girl finds it increasingly difficult to navigate through life wondering if all her travels and meetings as for naught. Her critics have include our Commander -In-Chief and his buddy Russia’s Vladimir Putin and Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro, who called her “a brat.” Think about that for second.  What adult attacks a child for being forward thinking and calling them out on their stuff.

Thanks goodnesses she had the love and support of a man who understood with every fiber of his being that his daughter was fighting for the survival of our planet.  A planet which produced her as an instrument of change.  What a blessing they are to have been given each other as guardian angels.

In the final chapter, Greta and her father Svante bravely sail over the Atlantic to attend two unprecedented UN climate summits in September 2019. Over this transformational year, we witness entities that seek to lift her up and tear her down. Through it all, Greta stays resolute in her mission for real change. “The world is waking up and change is coming whether you die it or not.”

She inspired young activists to strike every Friday, despite 200 murders of climate activists in 2018 and leaves us asking the question, “…if the end of the world was near, where would you want to be.”  You will get to experience Greta Thunberg when the I Am Greta hits the airwaves via HULU.
