AFI Fest: Natalie Portman Transform Into JACKIE

The Kennedy’s left a legacy of style and grace at the White House from which our current administration – The Obama’s, picked up the torch and “Made America Classy Again”.

It’s no wonder why Hollywood continues to revisit “Camelot” every chance it is given.  Most feature films and mini-series featuring the Kennedy legacy deal with the Kennedy men and the alleged affair with Marilyn Monroe.  Hardly ever, do we hear about the Kennedy’s from the perspective of the women, nor how that fateful day in Texas affected those who mattered the most…John F. Kennedy’s wife and children.

Jackie rips the band-aid off the wound and allows its audience to see the scrapes and bruises of a widowed First Lady and the aftermath of that horrific event.  Imagine how horrible it must be to realize how hatred can destroy not only a family, but a nation.

Kudos to director Pablo Larrain and Oscar winner Natalie Portman for honoring the memory, legacy and spirit of Jackie Kennedy beautifully.  Portman exudes the grace and quiet fire of a woman who would not disappear from life during a time in our country where women were to be seen and not heard.

From watching her wash her blood soaked bubble gum pink suit, pantyhose and hair to painfully explaining to the children their father won’t be coming home, this is a film that is more timely than ever giving the current climate of our country.

The Obama’s have exuded the elegance that a First Family should ALWAYS be and his administration exhibited the type of grace and positivity that a President and those who support him should always have in representing the “United” States of America.

As Americans, we should be reminded that although we elect an individual to the highest office in the land, at the end of the day…they are still human with feelings, families, dreams for themselves and for what type of country America was, is and shall continue to be.

If nothing else can be said for the Kennedy’s, despite all the scandal and controversy, they represented what this country should always be viewed as…the greatest country in the land where one is free to speak, love and become whoever they choose without hatred and contempt for their fellow American.
