AFI FILM FESTIVAL 2017: Noel Wells Moves Center Stage with Mr. Roosevelt
Everyone has had a pet that they love like family. Some of us have even had marriages and relationships where a pet was shared. But, what happens when the honeymoon is over and the couple has to decide who gets to keep the furry four-legged best friend. Is the doggy parent who bounces considered a deadbeat or MIA? Does the dog grieve the loss of the relationship or is the parent left behind grieving the loss of a relationship?
Straight rom her sketch comedy at SNL and her role as Rachel in Netflix’s Master of None, Noel Wells moves center stage with Mr. Roosevelt, marking her directorial and screenplay debut. After Emily’s ex-boyfriend phones to inform that her beloved pet has fallen ill. Emily (Noel Wells), a struggling YouTube star/comedian returns to Texas, where she is forced to face the past and come to terms with the reality of the mess that is called her life.
Mr. Roosevelt is a quirky, offbeat ride that makes you question things about one’s self that you never see coming. Britte Lower as Celeste reminds you of those nice-nasty girls who secretly do everything they can to make you think you’re crazy. Man, is she great at playing that mind game! Daniella Pineda is stellar with a quiet sexuality as Jen, the waitress who befriends Emily during a bathroom meltdown. Nick Thume as Emily’s ex Eric is hilarious as the man in the middle of the mayhem.
Noel Wells and Mr. Roosevelt hits theaters just in time for Turkey Day on November 22nd. Check it out if you get an opportunity.
