War Game Breaks Down Insurrection Discussions From the Inside Out

January is a month synonymous with two of the most terrifying days in American history, one of which threatened to destroy the democracy of our country forever.  On January 6th, devout followers of the Republican Party and our then POTUS, stormed the U.S. Capitol with the intention of taking over the government and harming specific individuals believed to have aided in stealing the 2020 election resulting in Joseph R. Biden being sworn in as President.

Never in my lifetime could I have imagined witnessing such a frightening and unbelievable scene appearing to look more like a  feature film than real life. With another election around the corner in nearly less than 70 days, history may possibly repeat itself.  Unless we do something to stop it.

Directed by Jesse Moss and Tony Gerber, War Game sweeps audiences into an elaborate future-set simulation that dramatically escalates the threat posed by the insurrection.

The filmmakers partnered with Vet Voice, who decided to take up the challenge of organizing the war game and called on a network of retired military and intelligence officers, and former elected officials from the last five Presidential administrations, to participate. The group included Republicans, Democrats and those who identified as non-partisan. Among them were two former US Senators, a US Governor, a handful of retired generals, and veterans of the CIA, FBI, DHS, and DOD. The exercise would be set in a representation of the White House Situation Room, the underground command center where the President manages civilian and military crises. Around the table would be the President and his senior political and military advisors, all played by former officials recruited by Vet Voice. An insurrectionist command center, the “red cell,” composed of military veterans — all experts on the tactics of the far right — would work in realtime to undermine the President and his advisors, to block the peaceful transfer of power. In other words, if the Red Cell wins, democracy loses.

Fascinating, educational and enlightening, this film makes audiences privy to the sensitive, yet all encompassing conversations and information in which these professionals weigh options for a solution to a domestic terror crisis. The threat of another insurrection occurring again in our lifetime is very real and extends to those military personnel and veterans whose exposure to misinformation could derail the country and the democratic freedoms we have taken for granted.  You don’t have to be a Democrat, Republican, Green Party or Independent to become enraptured with War Game.  As a matter of fact, it is the best gift you could give to yourself and those you love as a step to keep our democracy in tact and on track.

Contrary to it’s title, War Game is actually very entertaining and not as downtrodden as my description would suggest.  However, it is extremely honest and in your face facts that can’t be ignored or discarded.  It’s truly one of the best films I have ever witnessed that demystifies the democratic process from the inside out.
