The Fall Guy is Action Jammed Love Letter to Hollywood Stunt Community

David Leitch knows a thing or two about stunts having been served as stunt double for Brad Pitt in Fight Club. Now, the blockbuster director of Bullet Train, Deadpool 2, Atomic Blondeand Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and the producer of John Wick, Nobody and Violent Night, brings his most personal film yet to the big screen. A new hilarious, all-star hriller and love letter to action movies and the hard-working and under-appreciated crew of people who make them – stunt men with his latest flick – The Fall Guy.
If the title sounds familiar, it should. In 1981, Lee Major starred for five season as Hollywood stunt man Colt Seavers, who picks up extra pocket money by using his rough-and-tumble skills to track and capture bail jumpers. In this big screen version, Seavers (Ryan Gosling) is a stuntman fresh off an almost career-ending accident tasked with tracking down a missing movie star, solving a conspiracy, attempting to win back the love of his life, all while doing his day job. What could possibly go right?
While the film’s ruthless producer, Gail Meyer (Hannah Waddingham) maneuvers to keep the disappearance of star Tom Ryder (r Aaron Taylor-Johnson) a secret from the studio and the media, Colt performs the film’s most outrageous stunts while trying to charm his way back into Jody’s (Emily Blunt) good graces. But as the mystery around the missing star deepens, Colt finds himself entangled in a sinister, criminal plot pushing him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any stunt.
All of the stunts will leave audiences breathless while hanging on cheek on the edge of your set. Yet, one particular stunt performed by Logan Holladay actually broke the Guinness World Record™ for most cannon rolls in a car. Impressive right?
Gosling, right off his Oscar nom for Ken in the billion dollar blockbuster “Barbie” does not disappoint! He is just a hilariously charming here, going full throttle once again with a character that could very easily be taken as a surface joke. Yet, Gosling makes you care about Seaver as he struggles through his career and love life. Even though Blunt wowed audiences with her dramatic chops in “Oppenheimer,” it’s safe to say that she is also a master comedian whose command of being the straight man never grows old and is always razor sharp. Sharp is exactly what Waddingham brings to the table as that one producer who is just always doing the most and being super sinister in the process. She is absolutely amazing!
Clocking in at 126 minutes, this film flies by and will without a doubt be on of the first big summer blockbusters of 2024. Thank you David Leitch for sharing a love letter to a field often overlooked, but always appreciated by the audiences that witness their dangerous prowess.
