Splitsville is a Divorce Game Changing Comedy with Balls

Relationships are tough and the longer you’re in one the more challenging they can become. To the point where the question becomes do you really wanna be married to someone who doesn’t wanna be married to you?
Directed by Michael Angelo Covino and co-written, produced and starring Kyle Marvin, Splitsville literally and figuratively work it out in real time while simultaneously splitting sides from laugher and shouting at the screen!
Ashley (Adria Arjona) and Carey (Kyle Marvin) start out on a road trip to visit his bestie Paul (Michael Angelo Covino) and his wife Julie (Dakota Johnson) when a unforeseen accident changes everything when Ashley tells Carey she’s done and wants out of their marriage. Do we know that guilt is the reason people break up? Who knows, but all of these questions and how they are answered with a razor sharp, witty screenplay from Covino and Marvin make you ponder them in ways one would never have imagined.
It’s a roller coaster ride of emotions between the couples as they struggle to define what they want for themselves collectively and individually. Each one of these actors lean into their arsenal of comedic/dramatic strengths to ensure their characters are engaging and real in the most uncomfortable situations.
Marvin turning to making a sandwich whenever he feels stressed, gleefully singing off pitch and riding a rollercoaster while holding multiple bags or aquarium fish as they fly into the air had me gasping for air I laughed so hard.
Dakota Johnson is having a moment this year with multiple films in release. But, it is her quietfire, sultry intensity she brings to the party that sell Julie hook, line and sinker. Arjona and Covino seem to be the anchors of the quartet giving audiences a wild and wacky alternative to Netflix’s hit series The Four Seasons.
Splitsville is pure comedy and one of the most enjoyable, frills free films I have screened all year reminding audiences at the end of day love always wins.
