RIP MAYA ANGELOU
“A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song”
Maya Angelou
Being a girl from St. Louis, one of the first things I did when I arrived at Howard University was hit the Founders Library to see if they had any Maya Angelou books. I would spend hours reading them while waiting to take the bus home from school. Why? Because Maya was my home-girl born in STL!!
I was proud that someone from my hometown was such a prolific and profound influence in the literary world!
As an adult, I purchased and devoured again every book she wrote and still go to them from time to time for inspiration today.
This morning I rose to find out that this literary voice and her spirit have moved beyond this realm. Although saddened, I found solace and joy in the reality that her infamous words will live on in eternity.
Hopefully, other generations will enjoy and discover the work of Maya Angelou just as I did being a young, idealistic college student searching for ways to make this world we live in a more positive, productive place to exist…RIP Mama Maya…you will be missed😔
