Review: THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY
OK…so I am sure you have all read my rant over how annoying the media reaction/surprise at how THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY over performed its opening weekend. Well…needless to say my opinion was validated when the film brought in nearly 35 million and the studio is in negotiations to do what…scribe and direct THE BEST MAN 3!!!!
So, I had to put my money where my mouth is and pay to see this film as opposed to going to a “free screening”, which is always an option. I was not disappointed!!! All of the actors looked as if 15 years had not passed. When we last saw them, Lance (Morris Chestnut) and Mia’s (Monica Calhoun) impending nuptials are almost threatened due to the recent publishing of college friend Harper (Taye Diggs) and if Harper didn’t have enough drama he is still not over his former love Jordan (Nia Long). All the conflict provided many moments of laughter. 15 years late…I laughed, I cried and was elated to see African-Americans not being drug dealers, thugs, whores or any other negative stereotypes associated with my race. Contrary to popular belief, we are execs, business owners, open to dating other races and sooo much more. Not to mention that “our” story is being directed and written by an African-American…Malcolm Lee.
My favorite character is portrayed by Terrence Howard as Quentin. One word…Hi-larious!!! All the women (Nia Long, Melissa DeSousa, Regina Hall, Sanaa Lathan and Monica Calhoun) are gorgeous stay true to the characters from the original film as well as the guys (Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Harold Perrineau, and Terrence Howard).
Treat yourself and check it out…
