Review: For No Good Reason

fornogoodreason_A trip to Las Vegas between Roger Steadman and Hunter S. Thompson was serialized in the novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which later became a hit film at the Cannes Film Festival in 1998 starring Benicio Del Toro and Johnny Depp.  The documentary For No Good Reason has Depp serving as the narrator into the life of Ralph Steadman, his life as an artist and his unlikely alliance with Hunter S. Thompson.

What an amazingly odd, yet eye-opening life Mr. Steadman has led.  I’m sure even in his wildest dreams he couldn’t have imagined his art being the subject of so many  from his method, the demonic look his art or that he would be seen as more of a cartoonist than an “artist”.  For No Good Reason directed by Charlie Paul is 15 years in the making and has  played in New York City and Los Angeles in December 2013 (it also played at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival).  It’s now set for a regular US domestic release in Spring 2014 and was in competition for the Grierson Award for Best Documentary at the 2012 BFI London Film Festival.depp&steadman

For No Good Reason was fascinating to me and I assume it will be for you too.  While you are waiting for it to hit the theaters, check out Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as well…
