Pan-African Film Festival 2016

Every year during Black History Month, Los Angelinos are treated to two weeks of fashion, art and movies from around the globe from African American filmmakers through the Pan African Film Festival.

Highlights of the festival include Conversation Panels with Wesley Snipes, Ryan Coogler, Friends Remembering Miles Davis and Nate Parker, who just scored a record-breaking deal at the Sundance Film Festival for his film “Birth of a Nation”.

My screeners ranged from “The Church House” – Sexuality in the Black Church to “Half a Yellow Sun” based on the true story of the Biafran War in Nigeria to “Ota Benga” to  “A Ferguson Story”.

This festival is a favorite of mine, because I am always illuminated to facts about my culture that somehow eluded my education as a young woman in this country.
