LOGAN LUCKY FILM REVIEW with The Curvy Film Critic
Daniel Day-Lewis announced a few weeks back he was retiring from acting and a few years back acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh announced his retirement from Hollywood. Well, guess what? Soderbergh came out of retirement just for Channing Tatum to bring us Logan Lucky – a hillbilly, red-neck version of the Ocean's 11 franchise.
Very reminiscent of films in this genre like Cannonball Run and the Smokey and the Bandit franchise starring Burt Reynolds, Logan Lucky is hilarious!!! Starring Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Katie Holmes, Daniel Craig and Hillary Swank, the film centers around the Logan brothers and their quest for a little good luck. They attempt to achieve this by planning to pull a heist during a NASCAR race in North Carolina.
It goes off without a hitch…so we think. But, not without a plethora of shenanigans and hiccups along the way. Logan Lucky3 is also a silent observation and commentary on the country's current administration and their stance on pre-existing conditions in regards to the extremely controversial health care reform – otherwise known as Obamacare.
With one brother having a limp (Channing Tatum) and being laid-off and the other (Adam Driver) managing a bar with one arm, they feel like there has to be something better where one can live without worry or concern about bills, healthcare and loved ones. Daniel Craig as a hillbilly heist boss with a platinum buzz cut is pure comedy and a far cry from his role as James Bond. Of course Katie Holmes and Hillary Swankare awesomely awkward, Riley Keough as the hairdresser sister who has a little more piss and vinegar than one would think and Farrah Mackenzie as Tatum's Rihanna obsessed daughter round out the ensemble cast with just the right recipe for a comedic caper.
Check out this hysterical Daniel Craig scene…
Jack Quaid aka Fish Bang was gracious enough to chat with me about his character, working with iconic directors and his humble beginnings in sketch comedy…
Logan Lucky4 will hit theaters on August 18th at a theatre near you…
