Joan Jett Has Earned Her Bad Reputation in Rock ‘N’ Roll
What do you do when your parents buy you a guitar from Sears at 13 years-old? You start a rock band, become one of the few women to make rock ‘n’ roll history and are named Joan Jett!!!
With a look infused from a love of Liza Minnelli from ‘Cabaret’, Hollywood and rock n’ roll, this ground-breaking chick has endured cracked ribs just because she was a girl who wanted to play her favorite music – ROCK!!!
Bad Reputation chronicles the rise of fall of Joan Jett and the Heartbreakers from being the hit record on the back of a cereal box to starring opposite Michael J. Fox in Paul Schrader’s “Light of Day.” Her career and life were immortalized for a new generation with Kristen Stewart’s portrayal in 2010’s “The Runaways,” which Jett executive produced. She has proven time and time again that girls rock just as hard if not better than their male counterparts.
Screening to thunderous applause at the Sundance Film Festival, Interviewees in the doc include Michael J. Fox, Debbie Harry, Iggy Pop and Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong. Laura Jane Grace of Against Me!, and Miley Cyrus who speaks about finding inspiration in musical lust: “I think there’s this thing that women are supposed to act like we don’t like to f**k too.” And on the other end of the spectrum, there’s a worshipful cameo from unlikely mega-fan U.N. ambassador Nikki Hale.
In 2014, Jett is seen fronting the surviving members of Nirvana at their Hall of Fame induction, with Krist Novoselic knocking the Hall for not already having her in. She was inducted in 2015. Well, there’s pressure in admitting I Love Rock and Rock and the Joan Jett doc Bad Reputation. Go see it and head bang yourself in to a coma!!!
