Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Chris Pratt’s Favorite Prop (it’s not a blaster)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hit theaters TODAY and I had the dubious pleasure of interviewing the cast during a recent junket for the film. Got some special effects makeup tips, Zoe Secrets and some insight into Stallone’s career choices. Oh Yeah and Chris Pratt shares what his favorite movie prop was! (hint: it’s not a blaster or his tape recorder)!!!
Here are some excerpts.
Q. Mr. Stallone, can you talk a bit more about your Marvel education?
SYLVESTER STALLONE: Early on in my career I just always became fascinated with mythology and Joseph Campbell and you know, Man of a Thousand Faces. So when I started doing Rambo, there was an evolution that takes place and each generation has to define itself and find its own heroes and find its own mythology. This (GOTGVOL2) is this generation and maybe even the next generation’s mythology and when Kevin invited me onboard I said, “This is interesting because I haven’t gone here.” So I said, yeah, let me visit. Let me drop in here and see what’s up, [LAUGHTER] where the future’s going, you know, [LAUGHTER] and it was great…it got me out of the house from my three daughters. [LAUGHTER]
Q: What was the most exciting part of the process and what was the least exciting part of the process?
ZOE SALDANA: [LAUGHTER] My favorite part was the makeup process. [LAUGHTER] I’m joking. I think that definitely the relationship between Gamora and Nebula. I just, I’m one of three sisters. I have been itching and yearning to see more of a female presence in action films because I love action films.
Q: I wonder if we could talk a little bit about the makeup process… who wins the contest for the most time spent in the makeup chair?
KAREN GILLAN: I think we’re pretty even on our makeup times. It’s like, like an imperative part of the process for me now. It’s like I literally get to wear her skin, which is like the closest I can get to her, so that’s kind of cool.

POM KLEMENTIEFF: Mine is four, too, three and a half to four and a half.

ZOE SALDANA: Four hours. It can take a long time. I just talk my team to death. I don’t shut up, from 2:30 in the morning until we’re on set… I just keep talking and I feel like that’s how I get time to go by. There’s not much to do at 2:30 in the morning besides sleep, so [LAUGHS] you can’t eat, you can’t really move around that much because they need your hands and your face and your mouth needs to be shut because if you open your mouth you’re going to get a whole bunch of green paint sprayed into your mouth. So you just on your phone and you talk in between, you know.

Q: And for you, Mr. Bautista, is it different this time around? How do you pass the time in the makeup chair?
DAVE BAUTISTA: You know, I’m ashamed to even talk about it. It’s not really a labor at all. It’s about an hour and a half and I literally just zone out for the whole hour and a half. [LAUGHS] Just tune out.

Q: I was curious how you got into that dark space where Nebula is and since her relationship with Gamora kind of left off in a weird space, where is she going to show up next?
KAREN GILLAN: Ooooooh… well, no spoilers. [LAUGHTER] Yeah, the dark space of Nebula…I care so much about her and I feel like I’m her lawyer here to explain to everyone why she’s justified [LAUGHTER] in being a really mean villain and she is. And for me that is just to do with her backstory, her relationship with her father and her sister. What’s she going to be doing next? You’ll have to wait and see. I’m not saying anything. [LAUGHTER] Cool stuff.
PRESS: Zoe, you mentioned yourself that you’ve been in three different sci-fi movies. If you had to choose another one to do, which one would you choose?
ZOE SALDANA: [LAUGHTER] Dune. I was Lady Jessica like every other Halloween. [LAUGHTER] And when I wasn’t Lady or a Bene Gesserit…I was a ninja. So I would love to be in Dune and I heard Denis Villeneuve is thinking of revisiting. I hope he decides to do it, so… [LAUGHTER] it would be Dune.
PRESS: Mr. Stallone, is there still something out there that you want to do?
SYLVESTER STALLONE: The only thing I haven’t done is really perform brain surgery on myself. [LAUGHTER] [INDISCERNIBLE] I’ve been very, very lucky and you know, I’ve spared Shakespeare undue stress by not doing that, [LAUGHTER] Yeah, I don’t think it works. You’ve got to know your strengths and your weaknesses, so this is definitely venturing into a new area which, and it takes a lot of skill to work in these films. It’s one thing to do the kind of action movies I do, but this thing… there’s a lot to it. I was very, very impressed by the patience and the professionalism and just the overall skill set that these people possess. I’m jealous. [LAUGHTER]
Marvel Studios’ GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 is NOW playing in theatres everywhere! This film is hilarious and the perfect way to kick off the summer!
