Sinners Dominates Making History for the 98th Academy Award Nominations

 

Since 1929, The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences have recognized excellence in cinematic achievements and this moring nominations were announced for 98th Annual Academy Awards nominations  by Oscar Nominee for The Color Purple Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman.

Grabbing his first nomination for Best Director, Ryan Coogler’s nomination is just one of the 16 honors “Sinners” received this morning, alongside Michael B. Jordan (Best Actor), Wunmi Mosaku (Best Supporting Actress) and Delroy Lindo (Best Supporting Actor). The sexy supernatural vampire flick also received noms in Cinematography, Costume Design, Editing, Makeup & Hairstyling, Original Score, Original Song, Production Design, Sound, Visual Effects and Original Screenplay.

“One Battle After Another” came in second with 13, followed by “Frankenstein,” “Sentimental Value” and “Marty Supreme” with eight

The previous record of 14 nominations was shared by three films.  All About Eve, in 1950, held the record at the Academy for 47 years until Titanic tied it in 1997. 19 years later in 2016 , La La Land joined the pair with 14 nominations. All About Eve would go on to grab 6 wins and Titanic scored 11 including  Best Picture. La La Land also took  6 Oscars and still stands in the record books as the most nominated movie not to win Best Picture.

Th 98th Academy Awards will be announced live on ABC, Sunday March 15th and here is the full list of nominees.
