Moment of Truth Packs a Punch in The Face of Robeson County Justice

Robeson County in North Carolina is considered by many one of the most dangerous counties in the world.  It is there a decomposed body was discovered in a river.  Who would do such a thing?  Who would have such a flagrant disregard of human life to dump them in a body of water, take their valuables and joy ride in the car. of the deceased?   According to authorities, Daniel Green and Larry Demery were those human beings.  Did it look great that Green had a video dancing around and wearing jewelry belonging the deceased?  No.  Does Larry Demery’s unsavory dealings in the drug community make him look like an angel?  Absolutely not.

However, Green has maintained his innocence for more than 27 years. Directed by Matthew Perniciaro and Clay Johnson, Moment of Truth is a five part series telling the never-before-seen story behind the murder of beloved husband and father, James Jordan.   In addition to sharing the history of social injustice in Robeson County, North Carolina, Larry Demery and Daniel Green (then teenagers), were charged and convicted of the crime. This doc does a deep dive analysis presenting new, compelling info on the 1993 murder of James Jordan, father of NBA superstar Michael Jordan. The crime shocked the nation, creating a media frenzy and birthed numerous speculations and conspiracy theories.  It also placed a glaring spotlight on the many ways Black, Brown and indiginous people are pitted against one another when it comes to the ultimate survival.

Moment of Truth is particularly relevant at this time in American history, as we witness yet another slain black man (George Floyd) be put on trial instead of the cop (Derek Chauvin) who actually perpetrated the crime of killing with a knee to the neck with excessive force for nearly eight minutes.  Why are black men, when facing the legal system in this country never given the benefit of the doubt?  Details revealed during the Robeson County case sound eerily reminiscent of what went down with the Exonerated Five (previously known as the Central Park Five).  Remember how there was no evidence that linked these young men to the crime, yet there was evidence linking someone else.  That crucial piece of evidence was never admitted during the trial.

tells the never-before-seen story behind the murder of beloved husband and father, James Jordan, as well as the history of social injustice in Robeson County, North Carolina, where two teenagers, Larry Demery and Daniel Green, were charged and convicted of the crime.

Moment of Truth will not bring back the life of James Jordan, but I am hopeful it will create a window of opportunity for justice to prevail for a wrongly accused Daniel Green.  Larry Demery will have to face his conscience of rolling over on his best friend and for taking a life.
