KCET Lineup Classic MUST SEE MOVIES

Classics are some of my favorite films to binge watch!!!! Thank goodness KCET is blasting off 2018 with some timeless classics this month and the telecast schedule is as follows (*subject to change):

Breakfast at Tiffany’s Trailer

#201 Breakfast At Tiffany’s – Fri., Jan. 5 at 8 p.m. and Sat., Jan. 6 at 4 p.m.         

This popular 1961 American romantic comedy film was directed by Blake Edwards and written by George Axelrod, loosely based on Truman Capote’s novella of the same name. It starred Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard, and featuring Patricia Neal, Buddy

Ebsen, Martin Balsam, and Mickey Rooney.  It won two Academy Awards: Best Original Score and Best Original Song for “Moon River”, which was also selected as the fourth most memorable song in Hollywood history by the American Film Institute in 2004. The

film was also nominated for three other Academy Awards: Best Actress for Hepburn, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Art Direction.  In 2012, the film was deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the United States Library of

Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.

This 1955 romantic thriller was directed by Alfred Hitchcock, from a screenplay by John Michael Hayes, based on the 1952 novel of the same name by David Dodge.  The film stars Cary Grant as a retired cat- burglar who has to save his reformed reputation

by catching a new “cat” who is preying on the wealthy tourists of the French Riviera. Grace Kelly stars opposite him as his romantic interest in her final film with Hitchcock. Robert Burks won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography.

#203 Sunset Boulevard –  Fri., Jan. 12, at 8 p.m. with encores Sat., Jan. 13 at 4 p.m. and Fri., Jan. 26 at 10 p.m.

Sunset Boulevard is a 1950 American film noir directed and co-written by Billy Wilder.  The film stars William Holden as Joe Gillis, an unsuccessful screenwriter, and Gloria Swanson as Norma Desmond, a faded silent film star who draws him into her

fantasy world where she dreams of making a triumphant return to the screen.  Erich von Stroheim is Max von Mayerling, her devoted servant.  Director Cecil B. DeMille and gossip columnist Hedda Hopper play themselves.  It was nominated for eleven Academy

Awards (including nominations in all four acting categories) and won three – Best Music Score, Best Writing, Story and Screenplay, and Best Art Direction-Set Decoration.

#160 Junebug – Fri., Jan. 12 at 10 p.m.

Junebug is a 2005 American comedy-drama film directed by Phil Morrison.  It stars Embeth Davidtz, Amy Adams, Benjamin McKenzie, and Scott Wilson.  It was filmed in the North Carolina towns of Pfafftown, McLeansville, and Winston-Salem.  Amy Adams

received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role.

#204 Sorry, Wrong Number – Fri., Jan. 19 at 8 p.m. and Sat., Jan. 20 at 4:30 p.m.

Sorry, Wrong Number is a 1948 American thriller film noir directed by Anatole Litvak and starring Barbara Stanwyck and Burt Lancaster.  It tells the story of a woman who overhears a murder plot.
