Isabelle Huppert is Stalker from Hell in GRETA

When the song “Where Are You” plays in the background as we watch Greta (Isabelle Huppert) leave a black bag on the subway while making her way through the city to her nook of a cottage, you get this sense that this thriller, suspense ride has just slid off the tracks.

When sweet, naive Frances (Chloe Grace Moretz) finds the aforementioned black bag, her life will change In ways she never imagines as life collides with Greta (Isabelle Huppert).  I have to admit I was a little stunned that Huppert signed on for this flick.  In her Oscar nominated role for ELLE, she was the victim of a stalker and in Greta,  she literally IS the stalker.

Having said that, she was deliciously deviant, which made this film a lot of fun to watch as a demented French piano teacher in who has snapped at the loss of loved ones. It such proves once again that Huppert is literally the French Meryl Streep who can make you enjoy the most absurd of premises.

Greta puts a whole new spin on unrequited, obsessive love especially with lines “…like chewing gum, I tend to stick around.” And stick around is exactly what Greta does stalking Frances outside the restaurant where she is a waitress terrorizing her all for the sake of not being lonely.

Having said that, Greta feels like a May/December no romance fatal attraction between women and will definitely keep you intrigued while letting go a few chuckles in the process. It’s a silly look at what happens when loneliness and obsession collide turning the lives of Greta and Frances inside out.

Produced by Focus Features, Greta hits theatres on March 1st.
