Frances McDormand is Stellar in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri

As a native of Missouri, you all know I couldn’t wait to see this one!!!  For the simple fact it was happening in my home state, I knew it would be epic and I was right!  After all, my home state has been in the news more than its fair share this year and not in a positive way.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri focuses on a mother who while grieving the loss of her daughter decides to rent three billboards to call attention to the fact that there has been no progress finding her murderer.  What ensues afterwards is nothing short of hilarious!

Woody Harrelson (Willoughby) as the critically ill Police Chief is wickedly funny, yet poignant all a the same time.  What’s even more fascinating is that his character continue to exist mostly through voice-over throughout most of the film and yet I was just as engaged.

 

However, it was the performances of Sam Rockwell (Dixon) and Frances McDormand (Mildred) that were permanently burned in my brain.  Rockwell as the racially offensive police officer, with a heart of gold is complex, fascinating and grabs your empathy somewhere along the way.  McDormand is classically acerbic, witty and brilliant as a grieving Mom trying to get justice for her slain daughter.

Three Billboards in Ebbing, Missouri will cross-reference a gambit of emotions while dealing with a subject that is seen on the news way too often in our society.  Produced by Fox Searchlight Pictures, you can catch this film in theaters now!
