John Grisham novels when I was a college student at Howard University were some of my favorite modes of escape from the pressures that encompassed me as a college student. Mostly, because I am absolutely fascinated by the law.
In 1994, Grisham’s novel “The Client” was made into a feature film starring Susan Sarandon, Tommy Lee Jones and Mary Louise Parker.
“The Client” deals with a young boy who witnessed the suicide of a mafia lawyer. He hires an attorney to protect him when the district attorney tries to use him to take down a mob family.
The young man playing the young boy, Brad Renfro, was discovered by director Joel Schumaker, when he was just 10 years old. Unfortunatley, this would be the most successful film Renfro would star in as he sadly passed away in January 2008.
Sarandon was nominated for the Academy Award, SAG Award and won the BAFTA for her portrayal of tough D.A. Reggie Love. Tommy Lee Jones is his usual acerbic self and Mary Louise Parker as Mark’s mother…Dianne Sway made you want to slap the taste out of her mouth (which means her acting was right on point for my money)

Jaime Lee Curtis is Hollywood Royalty being the daughter of movie stars Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh. I became aware of her, when she starred opposite comedian Richard Lewis in the sitcom Anything But Love! It was one of my favorite shows at the time. It is no secret that Arnold Schwarzenegger is a former Mr. Universe who made a name for himself in the action-adventure film “The Terminator” and is a former Governor of California. But in 1994, he and Curtis teamed up to play domestics turned spies in the hit James Cameron film “True Lies”.
“True Lies” introduces us to Schwarzenegger as a fearless, globe-trotting, terrorist-battling secret agent has his life turned upside down when he discovers his wife might be having an affair with a used car salesman. One of the most memorable scenes is one where Curtis does a seductive strip tease for her husband that has hysterical and surprising results. Curtis walked away with a Golden Globe for her performance. It is highly entertaining with Tom Arnold playing the perfect sidekick.
