Review: TAMMY

tammyHow much I adore Melissa McCarthy!  She is by far, the funniest woman on the planet, so it suffices to say that I will run to see her in ANYTHING!  Tammy, which opened just on July 2nd, stars McCarthy, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates, Sandra Oh and Ben Falcone.  Falcone and McCarthy wrote the screenplay, whose funniest moments have McCarthy attempting to give CPR to a deer, robbing a chain of her former employer – complete with paper bag mask and gun and discovering that her grandmother is still alive after assuming she died in a patio lawn chair.

McCarthy as “Tammy” stars as a middle-aged woman, who embarks upon a road trip with her grandmother (Susan Sarandon) after discovering her husband is having an affair, gets fired and car breaks down all in the same day.  The road trip provides many hilarious scenarios, but mostly provides a a romantic opportunity for her and her grandmother.  We are also reminded at how powerful words can be and how they can cut like a knife when one is not mindful of what flies out on one’s mouth.

Tammy will make a great day better by making you smile if only for a little while.  Catch it in a theatre near you.
