Review: THE AVENGERS

OK…just like most people from my generation I am obsessed with comic book superheroes. Having said this, I realized that I have become partial to certain superheroes…particularly Superman and Ironman. It was Robert Downey, Jr. as Ironman that kept this film alive for me. Don’t get me wrong, all the superheroes did their thing, but when Ironman showed up, my interest and attention span was just a bit better..LOL.

With an all-star cast helmed by Joss Whedon, I felt the first half of the film was a little on the slow side, but perked up after about 45 minutes in. I especially loved that Samuel L. Jackson was Nick Fury, the man responsible for getting “the avengers” together to kick butt and Scarlett Johanson as the only female avenger, giving little girls someone to idolize a superhero. For me, it was Wonder Woman…LOL.

The fighting scenes were spectacular, especially anything involving The Hulk, smartly portrayed by Mark Ruffalo. However, my favorite performance was given by Tom Huddleston, who portrayed Loki. He gave Loki just the right amount of venom, comedy and intensity that makes his character jump off the screen. Watching in 3D is not my favorite thing to do and thought it had died in the 50’s. But in America…”everything old is new again “!!! Who knew…LOL

Of course, at the end we are left with the knowledge that there WILL be a sequel. The kids, teens and those diehard comic fans will have a great time. Great summer flick!!!
