13 Days of Halloween – The Exorcist
My imagination was so vivid as a child that my mother refused to let me see the film. When I attempted to watch it many years later…I understood why.
It was one of the most terrifying films to be released in decades. Massive reports of movie goers vomiting and being carried out of theaters due to the graphic nature of this film were witnessed countrywide. It even made playing with a Ouija board cool again.
The Exorcist made its young leading lady, Linda Blair, an Oscar nominated star and created a conversation and fixation with anything dealing with the devil. The film won 2 Oscars for Sound and Best Writing/Screenplay, all while grossing over 358 million dollars worldwide. It was indeed a cinematic phenomenon lending itself to the question of what is a mother to do when she feels like her child has been possessed by the devil himself.
Based on the book by William Peter Blatty, The Exorcist would later also become a television series lasting for three seasons.
